Radiologist Assistant, M.S. (SHP)
Radiologist Assistant, M.S.
Radiologist Assistants (RAs) are advanced-level radiologic technologists who extend the capacity of the radiologist in the diagnostic imaging environment. RAs perform patient assessment, management, and selected radiology procedures under the supervision of a radiologist. They contribute to improving workflow, enhancing patient care, and increasing diagnostic accuracy through advanced clinical education and experience.
RAs play a critical role in the radiology team, supporting efficiency, safety, and continuity of care by ensuring accurate imaging, patient preparation, and communication of findings. With training grounded in radiologic sciences, anatomy, pathology, and patient management, RAs serve as physician extenders in medical imaging. They contribute to preliminary observations, perform fluoroscopic and non-invasive procedures, and help optimize the use of imaging technology.
Graduates of the RA program are prepared for career advancement in hospital systems, outpatient imaging centers, interventional radiology departments, academic institutions, and private radiology practices. The role of the RA continues to evolve as healthcare delivery demands increase, and RA professionals are key to enhancing radiology service delivery in a patient-centered and collaborative care model.
